In Partnership With Kevin Murphy
I’ve always had a soft spot for
Kevin Murphy.Their Angel range was my go-to for years, and spotting their sleek little minis in hotel bathrooms? Always a treat (yes, I shamelessly hoard them). But somewhere along the way, my strands and I moved on — distracted by new, shiny things and a bathroom shelf that’s now frankly doing too much.
So when a freshly rebooted formula landed on my desk a few weeks ago, I was intrigued. Our senior beauty editor, Sadaf, asked if I’d be keen to try the new and improved
Kevin.Murphy Body Mass (she knows these
fine strands too well), and I jumped at the chance to dip my toe back into the wonderful world of Kevin Murphy.

I’m also not one to turn down a volume or
density-boosting product. Especially not with my wedding creeping up in eight months (cue internal screaming).
While I’d never actually tried the original version, I had used — and loved — the complementary Plumping Wash and Rinse in the past, so I knew my hair was in for a good time, if nothing else.
But enough about me (for now). Let’s talk about what this product actually is.
What Is Kevin.Murphy Body Mass?

Kevin.Murphy BODY.MASS is a leave-in plumping treatment designed to instantly thicken, strengthen and
volumise fine or thinning hair. It’s the final step in Kevin Murphy’s thickening regimen, working in tandem with the Plumping Wash and Rinse.
Originally inspired by eyelash thickening technology, Body Mass blends natural and science-backed ingredients to deliver both immediate results and long-term hair health.
At the heart of the formula is Wild Olive Tree stem cells — a new addition — which help create an optimal scalp environment, anchor hair at the root (to reduce fall), and visibly boost strand thickness.
You’ll also find Nettle Leaf extract, rich in scalp-loving vitamins and minerals, to support healthy growth and leave hair soft and manageable. And oleanolic acid, a standout active known for fortifying hair at the root and combating signs of follicle ageing.
Oh, and it’s free from silicones, parabens and animal testing, if you were wondering.
Benefits of Kevin.Murphy Body Mass:
Instantly plumps strands for thicker, fuller-looking hair.
Supports scalp health and flexibility.
Anchors roots to reduce hair fall.
Strengthens hair over time.
My Kevin.Murphy Body Mass Review
I’ve now used Body Mass a handful of times, and I can safely say: I get the hype.
Let’s start with the good stuff. First impressions? It smells great — light, fresh, and very Kevin Murphy. The packaging is cute and compact, with a precision nozzle that makes it easy to target the roots.
The application is simple enough: spray it onto towel-dried hair, focus on the roots, and then style as usual. One thing I will say: less is more. There's no guidance on how much to use, which would’ve been helpful, but I found 5–6 sprays was the sweet spot to cover my whole head. More than that, and things started to feel a bit chalky at the roots.

The formula is lightweight — especially compared to other thickening or volumising products I’ve tried — and it doesn’t leave my hair feeling sticky or weighed down on day one. In fact, the volume payoff was impressive. After the first use, I had multiple people comment on how full and bouncy my hair looked, and it actually stayed that way well into the next day (even if I didn’t love how it felt — more on that soon).
Another major plus: it doubles as a heat protectant, which means one less product in the rotation. And at 100ml, it’s under the liquid limit, so I can pack it for overseas travel without drama.
And while I obviously can’t speak to long-term thickening results just yet, I like knowing that I’m doing something for my scalp and strands beyond just the instant fluff. The fact that it supports hair health (and gives my hair that day-one bounce on the first day) and density over time makes it feel like a smart addition to my pre-wedding prep lineup.

Yes — it’s a little on the pricier side. But it is a treatment, so considering you’re getting volumising benefits, long-term hair health and heat protection in one product, I’d argue it’s pretty justified (especially if you’re not already using a separate heat protectant or scalp treatment).
Final Verdict
All in all, Kevin.Murphy Body Mass is a strong contender if you’re after noticeable volume without the crunch.
It’s an easy-to-use, multitasking treatment that fits neatly into an existing routine, and delivers both on performance and long-term benefits.
It’s exactly the kind of product I’ll be keeping in my rotation for events, vacations, and perhaps even wedding day hair prep.
If you’ve got fine hair, want extra lift, or just like the idea of a volumiser that actually cares for your scalp and strands? It’s definitely worth a spritz.
